Former Clinton Golden Bear logging quality minutes for DSU

Clinton Junior College’s home basketball games are filled with an energetic buzz. Last season, that energy was spread throughout Martin Gymnasium better known as “The Box” by Fred Bouie. Bouie is a 6’0” 180 lb guard for the Delaware State University Hornets.  He is getting adjusted to the pressures of an NCAA D-I schedule that includes teams like Connecticut, Kentucky, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Dayton, and Maryland it can be quite taxing. “Fred has been put in the fire at Delaware State, and his experience here at Clinton helped him make that adjustment”, stated Donald Payton Clinton Junior College head coach. Payton added “He’s used to having the ball in his hands and making good decisions, creating his own shot opportunities and playing non-stop on the defensive end”.

Fred Bouie set Clinton’s school record for three-point field goals in a season (95) and in a single game (10). He’s averaging 5.6 points per game, nearly 2 assists and 1.3 rebounds per game and logging 22 minutes per game. Fred’s best scoring effort came against Lehigh University with 15 points and 14 points against Oakland University, even though the team is struggling now the brutal schedule should help team in conference play. “Delaware State always plays a tough non-conference schedule which usually helps them down the stretch, it’s just good to see a former Golden Bear making an impact for DSU”, noted Payton. Fred Bouie who generated excitement at Clinton is now doing the same at his new school…Delaware State University.
