Former Golden Bear Brian Moultrie making strides at Armstrong Atlantic University

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Senior forward Brian Moultrie has been named the Peach Belt Conference's Men's Basketball Player of the Week, announced today by league officials. Moultrie is the first AASU player to earn the weekly honor since the 2006-07 season and the Beaufort, S.C., native earns the award for the first time in his career.
Moultrie set a pair of records during the 2008 Spring Hill Suites Midtown New Year's Classic last week, leading the Pirates to a 2-0 mark. His 19 rebounds against West Virginia Wesleyan are an Alumni Arena men's basketball record, eclipsing the previous mark of 17, set by Bryan Taylor in 2005, while his 14 offensive rebounds against the Bobcats set a new Peach Belt Conference record, breaking the old mark of 13 set by Juan Wiley of USC Aiken in 1998.
He also set a career high in that game with 23 points as the Pirates defeated West Virginia Wesleyan, 80-68, on Monday. Moultrie then delivered 14 points and six rebounds in the Pirates' 101-56 win over Wingate on Tuesday.
For the week, Moultrie averaged 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds, while shooting 69.2 percent from the floor (18-of-26) and recording two blocked shots. On the season, Moultrie is averaging 12.3 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, currently ranking 20th and 7th in the PBC in those respective categories.
Moultrie comes to AASU after graduating from Clinton Junior College in Rock Hill, SC. |
