Bouie’s offensive explosion paces Hornets to victory

GREENSBORO, N.C. (January 19, 2009) – Fred Bouie led the way as the Delaware State Hornets (4-15, 2-2 MEAC) downed the North Carolina A&T Aggies (7-11, 2-3 MEAC), 78-64, on Monday, January 19 at the Corbett Sports Complex. The win was the first of the season for the Hornets on the road, snapping a 13-game losing skid away from Memorial Hall. Bouie scored a career-high 22 points to lead all scorers. The Orlando, Fla., product came to Delaware State from Clinton Junior College (Rock Hill, SC) shot 8-of-15 on the night (4-of-7 from beyond the arc), while tallying four rebounds and three steals.

"I thought tonight was one of the better nights that we’ve had this season as far as execution," said Head Coach Greg Jackson. "I thought our guys came out with a lot of intensity on both ends of the floor. We were able to take North Carolina A&T out of a lot of things that they like to do, especially their half-court offense and we kept them out of transition. I thought those were the key ingredients to the ball game. We were able to play our style of offense and not allow them to get into a transition game. Even though, we turned the ball over a lot, our kids played well on both ends of the court."

The first half saw Delaware State score 35 points on 55.2 percent shooting (16-of-29). Leading the way in the first 20 minutes was Frisco Sandidge, who tallied 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting. The 6-foot-6 forward tallied four blocks in the first half, tying his career-high. In all the team registered seven blocked shots, holding the Aggies to 28.6 percent (10-of-35) shooting. N.C. A&T forced 14 DSU turnovers, keeping the score close. Bouie also registered double-digit scoring in the first half, shooting 4-of-10 from the floor for 10 points.

In the second half, Delaware State continued to shoot hot from the field, converting on 15-of-26 shots (57.7 percent). The Hornets held N.C. A&T to 46.4 percent shooting, while the Aggies missed seven attempts from the charity stripe.
