Student
Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program administered
by the U. S. Department of Education. Student Support Services is under
the "umbrella" of programs initially referred to as Special Programs for
Disadvantaged. These programs are now referred to as "TRIO" Programs.
The name of our SSS program is "A Beacon of Light Scholars Program".
Students
who are eligible for the program is determined by meeting one of the follow:

Qualify
within the federal income guidelines
- First
generation students
- Physical
disability or have a documented learning disability
- A need
for academic support to complete the educational process
The services the program provides are as follows:

Counseling (academic, personal, social, and financial aid)

Tutoring

Personal enrichment workshop in study skills

Assistance with continued school enrollment (RETENTION)

Social and cultural activities (which includes visiting 4-year institutions
to promote pursuing their education to receive a Bachelors degree)

Individualized services for student with disabilities
